Ingrid Buchner x Mathilde Lacoste
Sharing the inspiration

March 8th is International Women’s Day. It is an opportunity for Fusalp to pay tribute to two women whose personality and commitment have shaped the brand’s stylistic signature and its vision of femininity : free, bold and adventurous.

A visionary creative spirit, a mastery of the technicality of practical, elegant clothing, a little nonconformism and a lot of boldness. This is what unites Ingrid Buchner – designer of the brand between 1965 and 1984 – and Mathilde Lacoste, Creative Director of Fusalp since 2014.

Ingrid Buchner revolutionized the world of skiing by creating, in 1966, the first technical one-piece ski suit, crafted from stretch material, which featured aerodynamic characteristics.

This suit, described by the press at the time as “the secret weapon of the French team”, was worn by the biggest names in the sport at the Alpine World Ski Championships in Portillo, Chile.

It was at this international event that France distinguished itself by winning 16 medals, including seven gold medals out of a possible 8. This was the golden age of French skiing, a glorious period for the French team, but also for Fusalp, which became a major player in the Alpine ski clothing industry.

For the past seven years, Mathilde Lacoste has been revisiting, season after season, this Fusalp icon, which now benefits from over half a century of expertise. Spotted in the wardrobe of sport-chic skiers, the versatile ski suit has come straight from the mountains, to become an essential fashion piece of the urban wardrobe.

Throughout their meetings, Ingrid Buchner has passed on to Mathilde Lacoste unpublished archives and shared her know-how and inspirations. All of this information enriches the creative thinking of the brand’s Creative Director and her vision of sport-chic elegance ‘à la française’.
